The Teaching of Theresa

Theresa was excited to start attending Rip Tide Community Church. She quickly made her desire to teach a class known. The church, still excited to have this joyful, motivated lady, gladly appointed her to start a women’s Sunday School class. All seemed well until a member from Theresa’s class came to see the pastor. She said, “Pastor, Theresa is teaching that Jesus is just one way among many. She says she attends the local Mosque on Fridays and goes to the Hindu temple celebrations. She is trying to get up a group to join her this Friday at the Mosque.” The pastor investigated the claims and found them to be true. After much consideration the church elders decided to allow Theresa to continue to teach her class. It’s growth and the excitement of the ladies who attend seemed to suggest there was not a problem after all.  Some people left RTCC and today Theresa is on the elder board.

· What could have Rip Tide Community church done to prevent this?

· What should they have done when the problem first appeared?

· Diagnose the problem and suggest a solution.

· How does Revelation 2:18–29 help you speak into this issue?

    1. I was teaching through the letters to the Seven Churches and this was a case study to describe that very thing. We let down our guard because we have no requirements for membership.
