Pastor’s Letter – May 24, 2020 – Rest a While

And he said unto them, Come ye yourselves apart into a desert place, and rest a while: for there were many coming and going, and they had no leisure so much as to eat.

Mark 6:31

Dear Church and Friends,

Invitations come in many forms. Some are verbal, some written, but one thing is always the same, we love to get them. Invitations to weddings, graduations, reunions, gatherings of all kinds are part of our experience. In Mark 6 Jesus issues an invitation to his apostles and to us.

The apostles were commissioned and sent out by Christ to preach and teach. When they returned they were exhausted. This is when Jesus issued his invitation. He invites them to come apart to “a desert place” which means it was devoid of people but not of Him.

We, like they, need a little one on one time with our Master. Resting in Jesus is a wonderful exercise. And we need it because, “there were many coming and going.” Doesn’t this describe our generation? No doubt it describes many generations before ours and many which will follow.

On this Sabbath edition of the Pastor’s Letter take time to get apart, alone, with Jesus. Rest in him and find rest for your soul.

Prayer Request: Please pray for the Tajiks of Tajikistan.

  • (TAH-jeeks) – In hopes of reaching farther into new areas to spread gospel truth, efforts to saturate social media with Scripture are underway. Many Tajiks have subscribed to these social media channels, and they are, in turn, sharing verses they find there on other media platforms. Pray for these new approaches to reach Tajiks all over the country and in surrounding Central Asian countries. Pray that the Word will grab the hearts and change the lives of many. Pray, too, for effective ways to follow up and carry relationships deeper.

Question 45: How were they converted to God?

Answer: By the Almighty power of God’s Spirit.

Question 46: How did the Spirit work their conversion?

Answer: He printed the promise of mercy in their hearts.

Question 47: What was their promise of mercy?

Answer: Victory in the seed of the woman against the Serpent.

“Who is wise, and he shall understand these things? prudent, and he shall know them? for the ways of the Lord are right, and the just shall walk in them: but the transgressors shall fall therein.”

All my best.

And Jesus, when he came out, saw much people, and was moved with compassion toward them, because they were as sheep not having a shepherd: and he began to teach them many things.
