Dear Church and Friends,
What do you need to worship the Lord? Some might say they need a pew, a hymnal, a choir, a praise band, a piano, an organ, or an organized service. While all of these things aid in worship they are not the heart of worship.
Abraham’s servant demonstrates for us the simplicity of worship. The word “worship” appears three times in his story in Genesis 24.
- And the man bowed down his head, and worshipped the Lord. And he said, Blessed be the Lord God of my master Abraham, who hath not left destitute my master of his mercy and his truth: I being in the way, the Lord led me to the house of my master’s brethren. Genesis 24:26-27
- And I bowed down my head, and worshipped the Lord, and blessed the Lord God of my master Abraham, which had led me in the right way to take my master’s brother’s daughter unto his son. Genesis 24:48
- And it came to pass, that, when Abraham’s servant heard their words, he worshipped the Lord, bowing himself to the earth. Genesis 24:52
His worship springs from a grateful heart. Seeing the hand of God in answering his prayer, in the response of Rebekah, and in the response of her father and brother, he is overwhelmed with the goodness of God. Worship can happen in a house or beside a well with a bunch of smelly camels.
Worship doesn’t need externals. It only needs a grateful heart. Worship the Lord today while you water your camels.

- (NOO-bee-ans) – In A.D. 580, Nubia was considered to be a nation that strongly followed Jesus. Nubians proclaimed the name of the Lord and gave Him praise. Churches were built, and congregations gathered to worship. As Islam conquered the area, access to the Word of God and to the teaching of new clergy were cut off. Today, the vast majority of Nubians call themselves Muslims. Some practice folk Islam with its animistic rituals, while others live for materialism and education. A very few follow Jesus. Over the Nubian people, please pray Deuteronomy 32:3-4 (NIV): “I will proclaim the name of the Lord. Oh, praise the greatness of our God! He is the Rock, his works are perfect, and all his ways are just. A faithful God who does no wrong, upright and just is he.” Pray for Nubians to turn to the Lord. Ask God to raise up His church among them once again.
