Pastor’s Letter – September 4, 2020 – What Monsters Don’t Do

And Esau ran to meet him, and embraced him, and fell on his neck, and kissed him: and they wept.

Genesis 33:4

Dear Church and Friends,

“There’s a monster under my bed!” the boy said to his father. “How do you know there is a monster under your bed?” the father asked. “I heard a strange noise,” the boy said. “So, because you heard a strange noise you decided there is a monster under your bed?” “Yes. What else could it be?” the boy replied.

We create monsters all the time and construct them on very little information, just like the boy in my story. They aren’t real, (just don’t tell my monsters that, they might take offense), but we so believe they are that we redirect our lives to avoid them. That is exactly what Jacob did.

Based on a twenty year old threat, delivered to him second-hand he constructed a monster called Esau. Even after he sees the angels, makes his prayer, and wrestles with God, he still approaches Esau in fear. He doesn’t see his brother, he only sees the monster of his own creation.

How surprised he must have been when Esau hugged and kissed him. Monsters don’t do that, do they? No, but brothers do. Esau was mad twenty years ago but the Lord, and a dose of time defused his anger. The result was a loving embrace.

We all live with monsters of our own creation. They’re not real. They are built on misunderstanding and weird noises. The only way to find rest from the demands of the monsters is to deny them and trust the Lord. We’ll discover that they like to kiss and hug.

Prayer Request: Please pray for the following.

  • Kolkata, India. (kohl-KAH-tah) – As COVID-19 continues, some mature believers have started to take their training materials online. Audio is being recorded and videos are being made so that other believers can access the material from their homes. Please pray that all of these efforts will serve to prepare the newer believers in any way possible for kingdom work. The mature believers are also involved in several weekly online trainings in and outside of Kolkata. Please pray that they will be faithful and that God will use these times for the expansion of His gospel and the equipping of His followers. Ask for a good network to develop during the trainings. Pray for wisdom and insight, as this is the first time that they are doing online trainings.

168

Expound why these honorable offices were given unto Him.

By His Kingly power we are free from sin, death, and hell.

169

But we may easily fall into sin again?

Yet by the same power we shall rise, and gain the victory.

170

The battle is very hard?

We do not fight in our own strength.

171

What is our power and strength?

The power and Spirit of Christ in us.

All my best.

Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.
