Princes also sat and talked against me, but your servant meditated on your statutes.
Psalm 119:23 AMP
Dear Church and Friends,
How should the church respond when rights are curtailed and restricted? We saw how people reacted last week as they stormed the capital and invaded the halls of congress. Under the spell of fear that more was being taken from them, they acted out in anger. Civil unrest under the banner of patriotism is not a new occurrence, however it is not common place in our constitutional system.
Can the redeemed react in a similar way? Are we to rise up in violent conflict against the arrogant hand of tyranny? Is there a simple how-to guide for Christian insurrection? No. Rather, we are instructed to trust. The Hebrew evangelist said, “For ye had compassion of me in my bonds, and took joyfully the spoiling of your goods, knowing in yourselves that ye have in heaven a better and an enduring substance” (Hebrews 10:34).
In my daily reading I came across the passage quoted under the title of the Letter. I read this on the same day as the attack on the capital. the Spirit of God pointed out to me that this is how we should respond, by turning to meditation on God’s Word. With our face in the word, our knees bend in prayer, and our eyes focused on Christ we will respond in a biblical way to the turmoil facing us in this dark hour.
Go forth and trust!
