The Pastor’s Letter – June 8, 2021 – The Promise of Presence

Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.

Isaiah 41:10

Dear Church and Friends,

I am writing this to you from a hospital room where I’m visiting a sick family member who has suffered a stroke. As word reached friends, family, and extended family we received many well-wishes.

A dear friend of mine, the daughter of one of my mentors in ministry contacted me. She told me that her dad loved to share Isaiah 41:10 with those he visited in the hospital. I was glad to receive that word of the Lord from the legacy of his ministry. So today, I want to pass it on to you.

Here is Isaiah 41:10 broken down into its phrases.

  • Fear thou not;
  • for I am with thee:
  • be not dismayed;
  • for I am thy God:
  • I will strengthen thee;
  • yea, I will help thee;
  • yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.

I won’t say much about this (I don’t think I need to); the power of this verse and its endless application for our everyday living is apparent. But, notice the intimacy of the language, the “I” and the “thee.” Notice also the powerful promise of the passage along with the double declaration of intent. He promises us strength then follows that with two “yeas” to verify his work on our behalf.

No matter the weakening moment you face today, God is with you in it. Lean on his strength and promise.

Craig’s Catechism: How is the Church to be Known?

  • Question 308: What then is the infallible token of Christ’s Church? Answer: The Word truly preached and professed.
  • Question 309: Should we discuss who are saints indeed and who are not? Answer: No, for that appertains to God only and to themselves.
  • Question 310: But in this way we are joined with the wicked in the body. Answer: That cannot hurt us, or profit them.

All my best,

For I the Lord thy God will hold thy right hand, saying unto thee, Fear not; I will help thee.
