It is of the Lord’s mercies
That he gave his back to the smiters
His hand to the nail,
His cheeks to those who pluck out the beard
His head to the thorns.
That (therefore) we are not consumed,
"He shall see of the travail of his soul,
And shall be satisfied:"
Because his compassions fail not.
"For a small moment have I forsaken thee;
But with great mercies will I gather thee."
"In a little wrath I hid my face from thee for a moment;
But with everlasting kindness will I have mercy on thee,
Saith the Lord thy Redeemer."
