Both Joseph and Nicodemus risked everything to bury Jesus’ body. They revealed themselves to be believers at a time when it was very dangerous to acknowledge Christ.
This is nothing more than political calculating, driven by faithless hypocrisy. The chief priests should know better! And just as I get rhythm and passion for my sermon I hear the Lord say, “Haven’t you abandoned me too?”
This giving of thanks was for the bread but can’t you imagine that Jesus was thanking God for the giving of himself on the cross. The great moment of redemption had come.
What if all business stopped? We have a taste of that right now. Business produces a sound, it’s a sound of busyness and activity. If all that were to stop and be replaced by silence, how refreshing would that be?
